Countdown to Groundhog Day

Groundhogs Around The World: Milwaukee County Zoo’s Gordy

There are lots of groundhogs and Groundhog Day ceremonies around the world. One of these groundhogs is Gordy, a brand new groundhog at the Milwaukee County Zoo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Gordy will be making his prediction for the first time at 10:30 AM on February 2nd, 2019. If it’s sunny and Gordy sees his shadow, he’ll return to his den for six more weeks of winter, but if he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring!

Gordy is the first male groundhog at the Zoo since Waldo in 1996. Gordy’s groundhog predecessor, Wynter, passed away in 2017. Without a groundhog on Groundhog Day last year, a polar bear named Snow Lilly provided the prediction.

If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by for the ceremony.
