“Fireman Phil” Phantastic Phil

“Fireman Phil” is one of the Phantastic Phil statues that can be found around town in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce this Phil “is a tribute to the late firefighter Leroy ‘Cookie’ Depp. ” Additionally on the statue there are patches from three local fire companies as well as the number worn by Leroy. Leroy’s family sponsored the creation of the statue, not just as a memorial to Depp, but “as a tribute to volunteer firefighters everywhere.”[]

“Spirit of Punxsutawney” Phantastic Phil

The Spirit of Punxsutawney – According to the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce, this Phantastic Phil was created by artist Sandy Zambory, with the original design created by Rick Weiss. This Phil is sponsored by the Punxsutawney Spirit Newspaper, and stands outside their offices.[]

Philtuminous: The Heritage Hog Phantastic Phil

Philtuminous: The Heritage Hog – This Phantistic Phil is sponsored by the Miller Brothers Furniture and is located on West Mahoning Street in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.[]

Phillage Phantastic Phil

This is Phillage, the first Phantastic Phil, which was painted by artist Kelly Porada. It features Phil with the traditional tuxedo and top hat worn by the caretakers of Punxsutawney Phil.[]

Phil your Piggy Bank Phantastic Phil

Here’s an image of “Phil your Piggy Bank”, one of the Phantastic Phil statues in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, taken when we visited there a few years back. Created by Victoria Dicken, this Phil has a piggy bank in it’s stomach and has sayings such as “A penny saved is a penny earned” on it.[]

Phantastic Phil – “A Philnomenal Place”

This is another one of the Phantastic Phils that are scattered around Punxsutawney, PA. This one is called “A Philnomenal Place.” The artist is Joy A. Myers and the sponsor is Don and Candi Powell.[]

Phantastic Phil – “Phillage”

In Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, there are 32 6 foot tall fiberglass groundhogs scattered throughout the town. These statues are known as Phantastic Phils. The first Phantastic Phil was named “Phillage” and first appeared on Groundhog Day, 2004. It was sponsored by The Groundhog Cluband painted by local artist Kelly Porada. I took this photo of the statue on a recent trip to Punxsutawney.[]
