Staten Island Chuck’s Groundhog Day 2024 ceremony
On Friday, February 2nd, 2024, the Staten Island Zoo hosted their annual Groundhog Day ceremony.
Staten Island Chuck, also known as Charles G. Hogg, has been providing predictions on February 2nd, since 1981.
This was the first time since 2020, that the event has been open to the public. There were games and crafts, hot chocolate, and free hats and mittens from sponsor Citizens Bank.
Some of the Countdown to Groundhog Day staff traveled to the event, but due to a slightly later than expected start and missing a turn, we got there too late to get a good spot. There were probably a few hundred people there.
Before Chuck made his prediction, there were songs and music, including a music video from the Rock-A-Silly Band, jokes from local school students, and a few speeches.
When Chuck was finally revealed, he did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring.
