There have been a number of reports that Bill Murray was back in Woodstock, Illinois (the filming location of the 1993 classic Groundhog Day) this weekend, shooting a commercial for Jeep.
Not only was Murray (Phil Connors) in Woodstock, but also spotted were Stephen Tobolowsky who played Ned Ryerson and Brian Doyle-Murray, who played head groundhog honcho Buster Green. They were seen filming in the town square where many iconic scenes in the movie were shot 28 years prior. Murray was even spotted wearing a similar, if not the same, overcoat he wore in the film.
There were a number of posts on social media from local shops and people in town sharing photos of and with the stars.
Not much else is known about the specifics of the commercial, but it’s assumed it’s some sort of throwback to the film.
Groundhog Day takes place next weekend and a football game is supposed to be held in the evening in honor of the holiday, and many are speculating that this commercial might be aired during the Groundhog Day football game.
We here at Countdown to Groundhog Day are super excited to possibly see these beloved characters on our screens once again. We’ll keep you updated on any additional news we find out.
