Tinicum Tim’s Groundhog Day 2024 celebration

On Saturday, January 27th, 2024, the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge At Tinicum held their annual Groundhog Day celebration.

This celebration included a Groundhog Day themed guided walk on the grounds of the refuge, numerous Groundhog Day related crafts, games, and refreshments, a live animal presentation from the Philadelphia Metro Wildlife Center, and finally Tinicum Tim’s prediction ceremony.

Before Tinicum Tim, who is a groundhog puppet, came out of his hole to make his annual prediction, the crowd participated in a sing-along. The songs included variations of popular songs with lyrics altered to reference Tinicum Tim and Groundhog Day.

Ultimately Tim did not see his shadow, indicating that an early spring is on its way, much to the crowd’s general delight.

A great time was had by all. According to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge At Tinicum, around 400 people attended the event.
