On Saturday, February 1st, 2025, Harleysville Hank had his 10th annual Groundhog Day celebration at the Mennonite Heritage Center, in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. Members of the Countdown to Groundhog Day team were there.
The celebration took place on Saturday instead of Sunday, Groundhog Day, because Hank attends church on Sunday.
Before the ceremony, breakfast foods such as scrapple, cake, and activities were provided inside the barn.
Live music was played. The songs all had Groundhog Day related lyrics.
A number of speeches were given. The crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to Hank (and all other people with Groundhog Day Eve/Groundhog Day birthdays).
Then the crowd cheered for Hank, and he finally awoke.
Then Hanks’ prediction was read. Hank predicted an Early Spring (which is statistically what he usually prognosticates. He has only predicted Long Winter twice).
You can watch a video of the ceremony below.
This was a really fun way to kick off the Groundhog Day weekend, and we hope to visit Hank again sometime in the future.
