General Beauregard Lee

General Beauregard Lee, or Beau for short, is a groundhog that lives at the Dauset Trails Nature Center in Jackson, Georgia, and who has, since the early 1980s, been predicting the weather every year on Groundhog Day.

Several hundred people generally attend Beau's forecasting ceremony. Beau is lured out of his miniature mansion by the smell of hash browns from Waffle House. After awakening, if Beau sees his shadow, that indicates there will be a long winter. If Beau does not see his shadow, it means there will be an early spring.

Beau previously resided at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn, Georgia, before transferring to the Dauset Trails Nature Center.

Beau holds honorary degrees from the University of Georgia ("DWP, Doctor of Weather Prognostication") and Georgia State University ("Doctor of Southern Groundology").

There have been multiple General Lees throughout the year.
