Greta the Groundhog

Greta the Groundhog was a groundhog at Chimney Rock State Park in Chimney Rock, North Carolina, who provided Groundhog Day predictions from 2017 to 2021.

During her Groundhog Day appearance, Greta would emerge from her den to look for her shadow. If Greta saw her shadow, that would indicate there would be a long winter. Otherwise, a lack of shadow would indicate an early spring.

Greta's ceremony was usually attended by the Mayor of Chimney Rock Village. There were often kid-friendly crafts and family-friendly activities.

Greta passed away in the fall of 2021.

Greta replaced Grady as Chimney Rock's prognosticator, and was replaced by Pumpkin after her death.
