Western Maryland Murray (referred to as Mountain Maryland Murray at least one year) was a groundhog who predicted the weather in Cumberland, Maryland from 2008 until 2021, and who lived at the Tri-State Zoological Park of Western Maryland.
A ceremony was held at Cumberland City Hall, with the mayor and members of the town council attending. If Murray saw his shadow, there would be six more weeks of winter. A lack of a shadow would indicate an early spring.
Hot chocolate and coffee were provided, and a meet and greet with Murray was usually held after the prediction. A few hundred people would attend the event.
Murray passed away in June 2021.
