Unadilla Bill, a stuffed groundhog, predicted the weather in Unadilla, Nebraska, from 1986 until 2021.
A forecasting ceremony was held in the town, as well as a Groundhog Day parade and celebration where a King and Queen of the Groundhog Realm were crowned.
During the ceremony, if Bill saw his shadow, there would be a long winter. If Bill did not see his shadow, there would be an early spring.
Several hundred people usually showed up for the Groundhog Day events.
Unadilla was declared the "Groundhog Capital of Nebraska" in 1988 by Lt. Gov. William (Bill) Nichol.
When Unadilla Bill retired following Groundhog Day 2021, he was replaced by another stuffed groundhog, Unadilla Billie.
