Since 1993, Gertie the Groundhog has been predicting the weather at the Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City, Illinois, on Groundhog Day.
On the holiday, Gertie is awoken from her slumber by the singing of her official song, "Wake Up Gertie", by musician Barry Cloyd and the audience who has gathered to hear her prognostication. If Gertie see her shadow that indicates there will be a long winter. If she does not see her shadow, there will be an early spring.
If the Super Bowl falls after Groundhog Day, Gertie will also offer a prediction on the winner of the big game.
In 2011, famous weatherperson Willard Scott attended Gertie's Groundhog Day event, which occurred during a blizzard.
There have been multiple Gerties throughout the years. Read more about Gertie the Groundhog.
