A groundhog named Birmingham Bill has been providing Groundhog Day predictions at the Birmingham Zoo in Birmingham, Alabama, since the early 1990s.
Birmingham Bill's prediction is based on whether he see his shadow when he emerges from his den during his annual Groundhog Day appearance. If he does, then there will be a long winter. If Bill fails to see his shadow, there will be an early spring.
At Bill's Groundhog Day celebration there are often games, activities, and treats like hot chocolate, coffee, and donuts.
