Sassafras

Sassafras is a black bear who provided the weather prediction on Groundhog Day at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2024.

On Groundhog Day, Sassafras was presented with two boxes, one labeled "Long Winter," and the other "Early Spring." Whichever box she chose determined her prediction for the weather for the remainder of the winter.

Sassafras succeeded Leia, an aardvark who provided the previous year's Groundhog Day prediction.
