Snerd

Snerd is a groundhog who has been forecasting the weather on Groundhog Day at White Deer Park in Garner, North Carolina, since 2015.

At Garner's Groundhog Day event, there's music, live animals, mascots such as Smokey Bear, and different educational activities/crafts and stories.

Attendance is usually several hundred people, but is dependent on the weather, and day of week the holiday falls on.

Snerd doesn't give a prediction based on whether he sees his shadow or not, but consults almanacs and the internet, and confers with Mother Nature.

Snerd is provided to the event by CLAWS, Inc., a wildlife rehabilitation facility in North Carolina.

Prior to Snerd, a groundhog named Mortimer provided the Groundhog Day predictions in Garner. Snerd took over when Mortimer, for whom he was an understudy, retired.
