Smith Lake Jake

Smith Lake Jake is a groundhog who provided Groundhog Day predictions from 2005 to 2025 in Graysville, Alabama.

Jake's prognostication was based on whether or not the hair on his back stands up. If it did, there would be a long winter. If his hair did not stand up, there would be an early spring.

Jake was adopted and lived with Ginger and Heath Whitworth.

Smith Lake Jake was known for his penchant for wearing hats and had a large collection of them.

Jake loved many kinds of food, including spaghetti, chocolate milkshakes, and Honey Smacks® cereal.

There were numerous Jakes throughout the years.

In 2025, Smith Lake Jake appeared in a movie starring Seann William Scott called Bad Man. Jake portrayed a groundhog named Colt Lake Jake in the film.

In the fall of 2025, Ginger Whitworth passed away, ending the Smith Lake Jake tradition.
