Lady Edwina of Essex

Lady Edwina of Essex (a.k.a. Essex Edwina) is a groundhog who has been providing Groundhog Day predictions at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey, since 2022.

In a small ceremony attended by zoo patrons and local media, Lady Edwina looks for her shadow. If Lady Edwina sees her shadow, that indicates there will be six more weeks of winter. If Lady Edwina fails to see her shadow, there will be an early spring.

Lady Edwina is the successor to Essex Ed and took over prognosticating duties in 2022 after Ed retired.

Lady Edwina is the latest in a long line of prognosticating groundhogs for the zoo going back to the 1970s.
