Benny the Bass

Benny is a bass in Buckeye Lake, Ohio, who provides an annual winter prediction as part of Winterfest from the Buckeye Lake Region Chamber of Commerce.

To kick off the event, at 6:30 a.m. on the Saturday of Winterfest, minnows are dumped into Benny's tank. If Benny eats at least one minnow within three minutes of the minnows' release, then it means there will be an early spring. If Benny does not eat, then there will be a long winter.

Winterfest takes place every year on the last Saturday of January. Many other events and activities, besides Benny's prediction, are held during the weekend, including fireworks, the Buckeye Lake Polar Plunge, and a scavenger hunt.

The first Winterfest was held in 2015.

A theme song was written for Benny, called "Benny the Bass", by musician David Spires.
