Lucy the Lobster

Since 2018, Lucy the Lobster has been predicting the weather in Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia, which is considered the "Lobster Capital of Canada."

On Groundhog Day, when Lucy emerges from the Atlantic Ocean, if she sees her shadow there will be a long winter. If Lucy does not see her shadow, spring will come early.

Lucy's prediction kicks Nova Scotia's South Shore Lobster Crawl, a month-long celebration of all things lobster, which includes the "Lobster Roll Off Competition" and "Lobster Chowder Chowdown Showdown."

In the week leading up to Groundhog Day, and then for the entire month of February, Lucy can be visited at her "spa" in Captain Kat's Lobster Shack.

In 2024, a children's book inspired by Lucy was released, called "Lucy the Lob'STAR." The book, which provides an origin story for Lucy and how she became a Groundhog Day prognosticator, was written by Pam Wamback and illustrated by Chad Thompson.
