Big Al

Big Al (short for "big alligator") is a 90-year-old+ alligator from Gator Country Adventure Park in Beaumont, Texas, who has been providing a Groundhog Day weather prediction since the mid-2000s.

On Groundhog Day, Big Al is provided with a serving of food, such as fast-food chicken from KFC. Al's handlers say that alligators are unable to digest food unless warm weather is on its way. Therefore, if Al takes a bite of the food, that means there will be an early spring. If he does not eat, there will be a long winter.

Big Al is 13-feet 4-inches in length, and weights over 1,000 pounds.
