Chuck Wood

Chuck Wood, an animatronic puppet, has been providing a Groundhog Day prediction at the Groundhog Fever Festival in Quincy, California, since 2013.

If Chuck sees his shadow during his prediction ceremony at the festival, there will be six more weeks of winter. If Chuck does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.

The festival was originally started by a group of friends looking to have some fun during the slowest season of the year. The Quincy Chamber of Commerce eventually partnered with them and help put the festival on each year.

Events at the celebration will vary from year to year but have included activities such as the "Whip Cream Wrangle", the "Flip Cup Fight", the "Thumb Wrestle Tussle", and a Chili Cook off.

Attendance fluctuates depending on the weather, but around 1,000 people attended in 2020.

The Groundhog Fever Festival generally takes place on the first Saturday in February.
